Taxonomy
Hoplophractus was named by Cabrera (1939).

It was synonymized subjectively with Eosclerocalyptus by Perea (2005), Perea (2005) and Zurita and Aramayo (2007).

It was assigned to Hoplophorini by Hoffstetter (1958) and McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Glyptodontoinei by Fernicola (2008).
