Eriphyla was named by Gabb (1864) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bajo K Maes Sepkoski's reference number: 159].

It was reranked as Crassatella (Eriphyla) by Pilsbry (1897).

It was assigned to Crassatella by Pilsbry (1897); to Astartidae by Tashiro and Kozai (1982); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Eriphylinae by Vokes (1980) and Bouchet et al. (2010).
