Hyperammina was named by Brady (1879) [Sepkoski's age data: D Gedi-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 1070]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Astrorhizidae by Harlton (1933); to Hyperamminidae by Loeblich and Tappan (1984) and Morlotti (1988); to Hyperammininae by Cushman (1927) and Loeblich and Tappan (1988); and to Foraminiferida by Sepkoski (2002).
