Taxonomy
Atomodesma was named by Beyrich (1865) [Sepkoski's age data: P Asse Tr Indu-l]. It is the type genus of Atomodesminae.
It was assigned to Atomodesminae by Waterhouse (1976); to Myalinidae by Vokes (1980); to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Atomodesmatinae by Biakov (2008), Bouchet et al. (2010) and Biakov and Kutygin (2020).
