Taxonomy
Amplexus alternans was named by Eichwald (1856). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Sterlitamak Hill, which is in a Sakmarian marine horizon in the Russian Federation.

It was recombined as Amplexocarinia alternans by Fedorowski and Gorianov (1973).
