Patella antiquata was named by Linnaeus (1767). It is extant.

It was recombined as Hipponyx antiquatus by Ashley (1895); it was recombined as Amalthea antiquata by Dall and Simpson (1901); it was recombined as Hipponyx antiquata by Richards (1935); it was recombined as Amalthea antiquatus by McLean and Hebert (1946); it was recombined as Hipponix antiquatus by Weisbord (1962).
