Taxonomy
Farrea rugosa was named by Rigby and Albi (1996). Its type specimen is LACMIP 12244, an other (cluster of branches), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Olive Hill Reservoir, which is in a Miocene offshore siltstone in the Puente Formation of California.
