Taxonomy
Mareastraea grandiflora was named by Chevalier (1968). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is MA 115, Rô, Maré Island, which is in a Pleistocene reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in New Caledonia. It is the type species of Mareastraea.
