Indoceltites was named by Diener (1919) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Ladi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302].

It was assigned to Thanamitidae by Tozer (1981) and Tozer (1994); to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Celtitidae by Spath (1951) and Tongtherm et al. (2016).
