Phygadeuon was named by Gravenhorst (1829). It is extant. It is the type genus of Phygadeuontina.
It was assigned to Phygadeuonini by Statz (1936); to Ichneumonidae by Cockerell (1921) and Carpenter (1992); to Phygadeuontina by Wahl (2014); to Cryptidae by Spasojevic et al. (2018); and to Phygadeuontini by Klopfstein and Spasojevic (2019).
