Taxonomy
Protohelorus was named by Kozlov (1968). Its type is Protohelorus mesozoicus. It is the type genus of Protohelorinae.
It was assigned to Heloridae by Carpenter (1992); to Protohelorinae by Johnson (1992); and to Roproniidae by Shi et al. (2013).
