Taxonomy
Melania cochlearella was named by Lamarck (1804) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Grignon (Defrance collection), which is in a Lutetian open shallow subtidal sandstone/sandstone in France.
It was recombined as Rissoina (Zebinella) cochlearella by Cossmann (1900); it was recombined as Rissoina (Rissoina) cochlearella by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995).
