Taxonomy
Castoroidinae was named by Allen (1877). It is not extant. Its type is Castoroides. It was considered monophyletic by Rybczynski (2007).

It was reranked as the family Castoroididae by Flower and Lydekker (1891) and Hay (1902).

It was assigned to Simplicidentata by Flower and Lydekker (1891); to Myomorpha by Hay (1902); and to Castoridae by Korth and Bailey (2006), Korth (2007), Rybczynski (2007), Korth (2007), Korth (2008) and Korth (2017).
