Taxonomy
Brachyrhynchocyon sesnoni was named by Macdonald (1967). Its type specimen is LACM 17039, a partial skeleton (partial skull and mandible plus postcranial fragments), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Wolff Ranch (LACM 2002), which is in a Whitneyan terrestrial horizon in the Brule Formation of South Dakota.
It was recombined as Osbornodon sesnoni by Wang (1994), Wang and Tedford (1996) and Wang et al. (2008).
