Taxonomy
Canis brevicephalus was named by Qiu et al. (2004). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Longdan, Dongxiang, which is in a Pleistocene terrestrial packstone in China.
It was recombined as Xenocyon brevicephalus by Bartolini-Lucenti and Spassov (2022).
