Taxonomy
Canis sechurae was named by Thomas (1900). It is extant.

It was recombined as Pseudalopex sechurae by Kraglievich (1930), Cabrera (1931), van Gelder (1978) and Wang et al. (2008); it was recombined as Lycalopex sechurae by Wilson and Reeder (2005), Burgin et al. (2018) and Favarini et al. (2022).

Sister species lacking formal opinion data

Synonyms
  • Dusicyon sechurae was named by Thomas (1900). Its type specimen is EPN V. 3042, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Pseudalopex sechurae by Burgin et al. (2018).
