Taxonomy
Lophiodon calciculus was named by Cope (1880).

It was recombined as Pachynolophus calciculus by Cope (1881); it was synonymized subjectively with Helaletes nanus by Stucky (1984); it was recombined as Heptodon calciculus by Cope (1882), Wortman (1896), Hay (1902), Radinsky (1963) and Colbert and Schoch (1998).
