Taxonomy
Platycephalus iaiunus was named by Schwarzhans (2019). Its type specimen is NMNZ S.46825, an otolith, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Meyers Creek, which is in a Heretaungan marine sandstone in New Zealand.
