Taxonomy
Catopterus redfieldi was named by Egerton (1847). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Durham fish locality (main), Totoket Mountain, which is in a Hettangian lacustrine - small siltstone in the Shuttle Meadow Formation of Connecticut.
It was recombined as Redfieldius redfieldi by Hay (1902) and Rapp (1946).
