Mammuthus creticus
Taxonomy
Elephas creticus was named by Bate (1907). Its type specimen is AMPG-901, a tooth (upper right third molar), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cape Maleka 1, which is in a Pleistocene/Pleistocene cave sandstone in Greece.
It was recombined as Mammuthus creticus by Athanassiou et al. (2019).
