Nothokemadidae was named by White (1947).
It was synonymized subjectively with Camelinae by Patton (1967); it was considered an invalid subgroup of Artiodactyla by Frailey (1978); it was reranked as the subfamily Nothokemadinae by Marriott et al. (2022).
It was assigned to Hypertraguloidea by White (1947); and to Camelidae by Marriott et al. (2022).
