Taxonomy
Semipetasus was named by Sohn (1954) [Sepkoski's age data: P l P Leon]. Its type is Semipetasus signatus.

It was assigned to Kellettininae by Sohn (1954); to Kellettinidae by Benson et al. (1961); to Palaeocopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Kirkbyidae by Fohrer (1997), Mette (2010).
