Taxonomy
Steleopteron was named by Handlirsch (1906). It is not extant. It is the type genus of Steleopteridae.

It was assigned to Amphipterygidae by Ponomarenko (1985); to Amphipteryginae by Nel and Paicheler (1993); and to Steleopteridae by Handlirsch (1906), Carpenter (1992), Fleck et al. (2001), Zheng et al. (2018).
