Sister taxa: Stegomastodon brasiliensis, Stegomastodon chapmani, Stegomastodon mirificus, Stegomastodon nebrascensis, Stegomastodon primitivus
Type specimen: Univ. Iowa Coll. 213, a tooth (third right superior molar). Its type locality is Akron, which is in a Pleistocene terrestrial horizon in Iowa.
Ecology: ground dwelling grazer
Distribution:
• Quaternary of United States (2: Iowa, Nebraska collections)
Total: 2 collections each including a single occurrence
