Type specimen: Amer. Mus. 18240, a tooth (right inferior molar, r.M1). Its type locality is Aphelops Draw Quarries, which is in a Hemphillian terrestrial horizon in the Snake Creek Formation of Nebraska.

Ecology: ground dwelling grazer

Distribution: there are no occurrences of Stegomastodon nebrascensis in the database
