Taxonomy
Kinosternon wakeeniense was named by Bourque (2015). Its type specimen is MSU VP771, a partial shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is WaKeeney (Unit C), which is in a Miocene floodplain sandstone/siltstone in the Ogallala Formation of Kansas.
