Taxonomy
Volvula marcousana was named by Guirand and Ogérien (1865). It is the type species of Volvocylindrites.

It was recombined as Volvocylindrites marcousana by Cossmann (1895) and Gründel and Nützel (2012).

J. Gründel and A. Nützel 2012The shell is cylindrical to spindle-shaped and tapers on both ends (anterior and posterior) (bulliform). The last whorl covers all previous whorls entirely (convolute). The aperture is elongated and narrow and extends on the posterior end of the shell. The columella has a single weak fold.
