Taxonomy
Hylobates hainanus was named by Thomas (1892). It is extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Hylobates concolor by Kloss (1929); it was recombined as Hylobates (Nomascus) concolor hainanus by Groves and Wang (1990); it was recombined as Nomascus hainanus by Thinh et al. (2010).
