Taxonomy
Pongo hooijeri was named by Schwartz et al. (1995). Its type specimen is IAH TK 65/123, a tooth (left /M2), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Tham Hai Cave, which is in a Pleistocene cave horizon in Vietnam.
