Hoplochelys crassa

Taxonomy
Chelydra crassa was named by Cope (1888) [lectotype designated by Knauss et al. 2010]. Its type specimen is AMNH 6091, a partial shell (two costals, four peripherals, partial hyoplastron, partial hypoplastron), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Chaco Cañon neighborhood, which is in a Puercan/Torrejonian terrestrial horizon in the Nacimiento Formation of New Mexico.

It was recombined as Hoplochelys crassa by Hay (1908), Hay (1930), Hutchison and Holroyd (2003), Knauss et al. (2011) and Joyce and Bourque (2016).
