Oligoptycha was named by Meek (1876) [Sepkoski's age data: K Coni-u K Maes-u Sepkoski's reference number: 4,888]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Cinulia (Oligoptycha) by Böhm (1891).

It was assigned to Cinulia by Böhm (1891); to Ringiculidae by Allison (1955), Popenoe (1957) and Sohl (1964); and to Cephalaspida by Sepkoski (2002).
