Taxonomy
Hyolithellus papillatus was named by Walcott (1912). It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Loc. 111. Top of sandstone, Marble River, 1.6 km south of Chateaugay, which is in a Trempealeauan marine sandstone in the Keeseville Formation of New York.
