Comments: Paleontological Note: One of the named species from the South American clade Chelonoidis and the only one from Uruguay is Testudinites sellovii Weiss, 1830. The material consists of isolated plates that come mainly from the plastron, and originates from the Pleistocene deposits of Paso del Catalán, near river Queguay in the area of Paysandú (NW Uruguay). In this note, we present our observations on the type material, based on our direct observations on the material. We conclude that Testudinites sellovii is based on material which is not diagnostic, therefore we consider this name as a nomen dubium and the material can only be attributed to an indeterminate Testudinidae.
