Stratigraphy comments: The sample belongs to the late Tortonian (Late Miocene) SNSM14 Zone defined in the Netherlands (Munsterman & Brinkhuis, 2004), which is equivalent to the Hystrichosphaeropsis obscura biozone of Denmark (Dybkjær & Piasecki, 2010), and the DN9 Zone of the eastern USA and Germany (De Verteuil & Norris, 1996; Köthe, 2012), dated to ca 8.8–7.6 Ma (Dybkjær & Piasecki, 2010). |
