Stratigraphy
Formation:Irati Member:Taquaral
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: 9.5 cm thick bed at the base of the Taquaral Member. The fossiliferous bed lies in erosional disconformity upon sandstones of the Tatuí Formation, which are penetrated locally by irregular, narrow tubular ichnofossils filled by sediment from the fossiliferous bed.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:"cross stratification",gray lithified conglomeratic sandstone
Lithology description: Light gray to gray, fining-upward, cross-laminated conglomeratic sandstone with angular to rounded, abundant granules and rare pebbles of quartz and chert dispersed in a very fine to coarse sandy matrix.
Environment:lacustrine indet.
Geology comments: The environment of the Irati Formation is unclear - it lacks all typical marine fossil groups but has Mesosaurs so is likely freshwater (but could be highly restricted marine).
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body
Size of fossils:macrofossils,mesofossils
Spatial resolution:parautochthonous
Collection methods and comments
Collection methods:field collection
Reason for describing collection:taxonomic analysis
