Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:massive,fine,coarse,brown,yellow lithified sandstone
Secondary lithology:massive,"cross stratification",coarse lithified sandstone
Lithology description: "Kummel (1948) describes the Vivian Formation as containing two distinct lithofacies. The upper member is 80 m thick, and is comprised of yellowish-brown to white, massive, coarse to fine-grained sandstones with black partings, and interbedded black silty shale beds some of which are two meters thick. The lower member is 140 m thick, and is composed of massive, coarse, cross-bedded sandstones, with interbedded black shale beds, and prominent ironstone concretions. Lateral lithofacies changes, from sandstones to black shales, occur east to west. Vivian outcrops strike north-south, parallel to the north-south axes of regional eastern Andean ant- and synclinal fold belts." It is not known in which facies the fossils were found.
Environment:deltaic indet.
Geology comments: "Could be either a fluvially influenced estuary or prograding delta front."
