Sinjdi locality, Ghazij Fm, Section B (Eocene of Pakistan)

Where: Pakistan (30.1° N, 67.3° E: paleocoordinates 5.8° N, 61.6° E)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Ghazij Formation, Ypresian (56.0 - 47.8 Ma)

Environment/lithology: basinal (); gray, green shale and brown, gray sandstone

• The Ghazij formation is divided locally into four lithological subdivisions: shale, sandstone, limestone, and conglomerate. These subdivisions have variable thickness (4' to 240 ). The shale is predominant, light green, gray or olive green in color, with maroon, purple and yellow colors being subordinate. The sandstone is grey or brown, mostly coarse-grained and pebbly. The brown sandy limestone is interbedded with sandstone and shale. The lenses of conglomerate, a minor constituent at most localities, become continuous and attain a thickness of 200 feet in the Sor Range. The clasts are derived from the older strata and are composed of Cretaceous chert and limestone. Thin beds and lenses of coal are also present in the formation. The coal is mostly grayish to brown, or brownish black in color and is slightly fissile. Veinlets of gypsum and partly decomposed woody material are present in the coat.
• Shale with beds of sandstone, limestone, conglomerate and coal

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils, microfossils
