Daraispon (Miocene of Tajikistan)

When: Tavildara Formation, Turolian (8.7 - 5.3 Ma)

• Tavildara = late Magian suite. Upper Miocene (MN12), Late Turolian. Strongly carbonised, hard aleurites of dark and light brown colour. The fossiliferous horizon which is 20-30cm thick, lies in the upper part of the section, 40m above the level of the river with an inclination of 3-5 degrees south.

Environment/lithology: siltstone and conglomerate

• 'Atributed to the Karanak suite that consists of reddish-brown ill-sorted siltstones with conglomeratic layers and lenses.'

Size class: macrofossils

Collection methods: Site discovered in 1978. There are two different faunal lists (as a result of 2 different excavations), with no overlap except Hipparion, so both have been entered.
