When: Magian suite Formation, Turolian (8.7 - 5.3 Ma)

• In the Magian (= Tavildara and Karanak) suite (near the site of Magian = Sor). Late Turolian, (MN12), Upper Miocene. 11Ma (according to Forsten and Sharapov).

Environment/lithology: brown siltstone and conglomerate

• Probably of volcanic origin.
• 'The Magian suite comprises brown siltstones with interbedded conglomerates.' 'from the bottom up, layers of grey conglomerates, pale brown aleurites and thin layers of sands.' total thickness of approximately 50m.

Size class: macrofossils

Collection methods: locality destroyed by blasting during canal building.

Taxonomic list

• The two different faunal lists conflict, as they were collected by separate groups, so both have been entered.

•50% of finds belong to rhinocerotids. Forsten and Sharapov also list Hipparion sp. and eggshells of a large bird ?Ostrich.
