Also known as Gara Sba, Gara Sbâa
Where: Drâa-Tafilalet, Morocco (30.5° N, 4.8° W: paleocoordinates 17.8° N, 4.8° W)
• coordinate estimated from map
• local area-level geographic resolution
When: Gara Sbaa Formation (Kem Kem Group), Early/Lower Cenomanian (99.6 - 93.5 Ma)
• Kem Kem beds have distinct upper and lower units in this region, with fossils found in both parts. The formation lies conformably below the Cenomanian-Turonian limestone. The "fossiliferous zone" ocuupies about 90 meters of section overlapping both members.
• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution
Environment/lithology: deltaic; lithified, bioturbated, red, yellow sandstone and lithified, burrowed, pebbly, red sandstone
•Lower unit: reddish, fine- to coarse-grained, planar and cross-stratified sandstone with lateral accretion deposits. Pebble channels, vertical burrows, and rolled vertebrate fossils are common above the basal 15 m. Soft-sediment deformation, mudstone lenses and gypsum are rare.
Size class: macrofossils
Preservation: trace
