Uppony Rock Shelter 1, layer 10 (Pleistocene of Hungary)

Also known as Uppony 1, level 10

Where: Hungary (48.2° N, 20.4° E: paleocoordinates 48.2° N, 20.4° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

When: Middle Pleistocene (0.8 - 0.1 Ma)

• Biharian, Middle Pleistocene

Environment/lithology:

• 'these lower layers were divided by a 30-40cm thick layer of calcite sediment from those above. the lower layerr are brown but not reddish in colour as are the usual, similar aged sediments of the Lower Pleistocene; this is perhaps explained by the northern exposure of the rock shelter.'

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils
