Marne a Briozoi, Valle dell'Onte [Marna di Priabona Fm] - Coleoidea (Eocene of Italy)

Where: Italy (45.5° N, 11.8° E: paleocoordinates 41.6° N, 9.8° E)

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Marne di Priabona Formation, Priabonian (38.0 - 33.9 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the uppermost part "Marne a briozoi" of the Marna di Priabona Fm, which is overlain by coralligneous and nummulitic limestone of the Early Oligocene. AGE: Uppermost Priabonian. Age justified on the basis of calcareous nannoplankton. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From an outcrop of 5 m thickness at the top (immediately below overlying Oligocene limestone), within 40 m thick local section.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lagoonal or restricted shallow subtidal; lithified, shelly/skeletal, gray, yellow, blue, argillaceous, calcareous marl

• ENVIRONMENT: Shallow marine carbonate back-reef environment.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Bryozoan rich marl, almost clayey in composition, but with a high carbonate composition, blue-grey when fresh, yellowish when weathered. LITHIFICATION: Lithified, on the basis of figured specimens.

Size class: macrofossils

Collection methods: surface (in situ),

• COLLECTOR: Unknown. REPOSITORY: Padova University, Italy.

Taxonomic list

• COVERAGE: Includes Coleoidea, Bivalvia, Gastropoda, Decapoda, Spatangoidea, and shark teeth. NOMENCLATURE: Authoritative publication for Coleoidea and with modern nomenclature and species-level identification for that taxon. Nomenclature for molluscs appears slightly antiquated but taxa are identified to species-level.
