Also known as BUKII

Where: Uganda (1.3° N, 34.8° E: paleocoordinates 0.1° N, 32.6° E)

• coordinate stated in text

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Burdigalian (20.4 - 16.0 Ma)

• revised age estimate for the Bukwa localities of 19.1–19.5 Ma (MacLatchy et al., 2006 MacLatchy, L., A. Deino, and J. Kingston. 2006. An updated chronology for the early Miocene of NE Uganda. Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology 26(3, Supplement):93A.

•Cote et al. 2018: 40Ar/39Ar incremental heating ages on lavas bracketing the site indicate that the Bukwa fossils were deposited ~19 Ma, roughly 3 Ma younger than the original radiometric age.

Environment/lithology: lacustrine - small; claystone and siltstone

• small lake in a forested setting
• green ostracod clay unit within the larger lacustrine tuff and silt beds produces fish fossils

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils
