Montgomery County decapods (Cretaceous of the United States)

Where: Montgomery County, Alabama (32.3° N, 86.3° W: paleocoordinates 34.5° N, 57.9° W)

• coordinate stated in text

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Eutaw Formation, Campanian (83.6 - 72.1 Ma)

• from a "massively 'bedded'" horizon: does not belong to the Tombigee Member, contra Knowles et al. 1963

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: paralic; poorly lithified, glauconitic, micaceous, calcareous sandstone

• "this type of bedding in a association with a shallow-marine fauna would normally be interpreted as indicative of a prograding beach" but "texture of the matrix indicates more rapid deposition"
• "glauconitic and micaceous quartzsand which may be cemented locally by calcite" with "highly angled, foreset laminations in 'beds' (stacked sets of oblique laminae) up to two m in thickness"

•figured specimens do not include matrix, sediment was screened, and numerous shark teeth were recovered, suggesting poor lithification

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Collected by R. C. Cason, D. Dollar; reposited in the BMNH

Collection methods: bulk, sieve,

• "bulk screening"

•BMNH In., Geological Survey of Alabama, and personal collections
