AEM 34. Antsirasira–Ampolipoly (Cretaceous of Madagascar)

Where: Madagascar (18.4° S, 44.8° E: paleocoordinates 37.0° S, 35.8° E)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Pseudoschloenbachia umbulazi ammonoid zone, Late/Upper Santonian (85.8 - 83.5 Ma)

• Given as Late Santonian; However, Pseudoschloenbachia umbulazi zone is early Campanian elsewhere.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; concretionary limestone

• A 2.5 m-thick bed with numerous concretionary horizons; huge concretions at the bottom of the bed, yielding very rich ammonite (mainly Texanites) and inoceramid faunas. This is the level with the first appearance of representatives of inoceramids of the muelleri group, referred to as Cordiceramus mitraikyensis.

Size class: macrofossils
