• coordinate based on nearby landmark

When: Tortonian to Tortonian (11.6 - 5.3 Ma)

Environment/lithology: marine; marl

• Between the base and 45 m, it comprises alternating marls and clayey limestones. In the lower part, burrows and marly sapropel levels occur. Between 45 and 57 m, clayey limestones dominate and bioturbations are frequent. Laminated marly beds (with continental leaves and fish remains) appear in the upper half, and firmgrounds and brecciated slump levels have been observed near the top where a 1-m thick Halimeda (calcareous green algae) floatstone appears. Several levels with concentrations of bivalve shells (mostly Neopycnodonte) also occur throughout the section.
