• "quiet, shallow-water, estuarine assemblage... a river in the near vicinity"
• "dark brown to blackish sandy organic layer" (Morgan and Ridgway 1987) or "abundant Rangia sp. valves interspersed with a matrix of black-to-dark gray sand" (Hulbert 1988)
