Dicoelosia-Skenidioides Community, Merida Andes (Silurian of Venezuela)

Where: Venezuela (8.6° N, 71.2° W: paleocoordinates 56.4° S, 69.1° W)

• coordinate based on political unit

• basin-level geographic resolution

When: El Horno Formation, Ludlow (427.4 - 423.0 Ma)

• Ludlow age based on presence of Amphistrophia cf. funiculata, "Brachyprion" cf. attenuata, Shagamella ludloviensis, and Coelospira cf. saffordi (Boucot et al. 1972--PBDB ref. 7026). This was originally part of the Caparo Formation, but that is now restricted to the Sandbian.

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; gray mudstone

• "BA 4-5...A normal level of turbulence and oxygenation is indicated by the data."
• "Most of the shells are disarticulated and occur in a gray mudstone matrix as either coquinas or as shells scattered through poorly bedded matrix."

Size class: macrofossils

Collection methods: Table 5 of Boucot et al. 1973 (PBDB ref. 7026).
