La Boëce (Cretaceous of France)

Also known as Oceanosuchus boecensis type locality

Where: Normandy, France (49.0° N, 0.2° E: paleocoordinates 37.8° N, 2.0° E)

When: Early/Lower Cenomanian (99.6 - 93.5 Ma)

• From the base of hard-ground Coulimer 2.

•The age based on microfossils and ammonites would correspond to M. saxbii ammonite zone.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: platform or shelf-margin reef; lithified, glauconitic, cherty/siliceous chalk

• Evidence from microfossils (ostracode valves still in connection) and macrofossils (occurrence of small bones) indicates a low energy environment. The remains have undergone no or little transport, which indicates a taphocoenosis close to a biocoenosis.

•It seems that Oceanosuchus lived in a carbonate platform environment, in tropical waters (approximately 20-25oC)

• Moderately silicified glauconitic chalk

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils
