• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the upper member of the Qimugen Fm, which overlies the lower member of the Qimugen Fm (Late Paleocene) and is overlain by the Kalatar Fm (lower Middle Eocene). AGE: Early Eocene. Justification not stated, but presumably through macrofossil and microfossil biostratigraphy. Pollen present. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From bed within lower part of the upper member of the formation.

Environment/lithology: shallow subtidal; poorly lithified, gray, yellow marl

• ENVIRONMENT: Subtidal zone, normal salinity, water temp of ~23°C, and well oxygenated.
